Oistryk, Yvonne

Yvonne (Andrew) Oistryk went to be with Our Lord on Nov. 2, 2017, at the age of 90. Yvonne was born in Drumheller on May 25, 1927 to parents Ernestine and Charles Andrew.
She attended East View Country School until grade 9, and then finished high school at St. Mary’s in Calgary. From there she took her nurses training at Holy Cross Hospital, graduating in 1949.
Her many places of work took her to Fort William Ont., Edmonton, High River, Drumheller, Oshava Ont., and Yellowknife N.W.T.
After receiving a diploma in teaching and supervision from the University of Saskatchewan, she taught an operating technician course in Saskatoon and Calgary.
Yvonne enjoyed travelling and a highlight of her life was a hitch-hiking tour of Europe in 1954.
In 1973 she met and married Stanly Oistryk, and in 1975 Stanley Jr. was born. Since Stanley was born with Downs Syndrome, she devoted much of her time to his care and education. These were fruitful and fulfilling years.
Yvonne spent a considerable amount of time canvasing and organizing for charities. In 2005, she and Stan moved to a condo in northeast Calgary where they enjoyed new friends and many amenities.
With widowhood and declining health, she moved to the Lodge in Hanna in 2015.
Yvonne enjoyed being close to family and the friendly atmosphere of a small town. The next move was to the extended care in 2017.
In May of this year Yvonne celebrated her 90th birthday with many family and friends. Yvonne also wishes to thank all the family and friends who have supported, loved, and gave so much to make her life full, interesting and enjoyable.
Yvonne is survived by step-daughters Gayle (Clarence) Chase and their families, Linda (Marcel) Ruest and their families; her brother Jim (Dorothy); sister-in-laws Marie (Maurice) Gargner, Holly Kominetsky; and many nieces and nephews who lovingly called her Auntie Sue.
She is predeceased by husband Stan, son Stanley; brothers Len (Franis) and Ted (Irene); sister-in-law Elizabeth (Ted) Miazga.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sat. Dec. 2, 2017, 11 a.m. at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, Hanna, Ab.
