The Trochu Ag Society started the 2023 season off with their Annual Winter Family Fun Day. As a thank you to the community and surrounding area, this was a free event on Family Day, Feb. 19, 2023, complete with wagon rides, hotdogs, hot chocolate and a bonfire.
Each year the society hosts clinicians at the grounds. New ideas on clinicians are always welcome.
In 2023 Steve Theissen held a breakaway roping clinic and Mounted Medieval Games Clinic. Both were well attended.
The 2nd Annual Bull-a-Rama was held on June 24 with attendance more than double compared to the first year. The Bowden Rodeo princesses, Cotton Candy entrepreneur and a young upcoming sheep wrangler joined our event.
Canada Day weekend saw the annual junior rodeo with the Crooked Horn Junior Rodeo Association for the 2-day event with trick riders for the half time show and recognition to Canadian legend trick rider, Clair Dewar Roberts.
Also included were bouncy castles, a petting zoo as well as a face painting and the day wrapped up with the Annual Ball Tournament dance.
Rental of the grounds included the Canadian Girls Rodeo Association (CGRA) on July 8 and a private rental for a wedding reception on July 22.
More seating capacity has been added for the upcoming year. With setting funds aside, having the support of the Town of Trochu and a grant from Kneehill County, the society was able to raise enough funds to receive a grant for new bleachers that will be delivered this spring.
Another smaller grant will be put towards a new storage/rodeo office building.
2024 will be Trochu & Districts Ag Society’s 50th anniversary. Along with the Family Fun Day, Bull-a-Rama and Canada Day junior rodeo, the committee is working on having a country fair with games, contests, judging, supper and animal zoo in August.
With the anniversary year approaching, the group decided to create a new logo.
