Words and truth do matter

Written by ECA Review

Dear Editor,

As I said in my last letter, we have to be careful about which “truths” we accept. Don’t be swayed by rhetoric. Do research and don’t be a sheep.

The letter titled, Way I see it, the truth is…, Pg. 4, April 20 claims that the “media” is out to get Trump. He has forgotten that the media from around the world has presented a ton of information concerning Trump, his associates and his business enterprises, but there are some folks who continue to believe in conspiracy theories, and who continue to support the ideas that the election of President Biden was “rigged”.

Court cases after court cases have proven the election of 2020 was not “rigged” nor “stolen”, yet the myth continues. Does that mean the juries and the judges that have ruled against him are all ‘“crooked”? Alex Jones lost. Kari Lake lost. Fox News lost. Tucker Carlson lost, two of his lawyers, Rudy Giuliani and Sydney Powell may lose their licences for lying and for spreading conspiracy theories, and his chief financial for his corporation lied and went to prison. Must be fake news, eh? A figment of our imaginations, eh?

Furthermore, Trump is also facing charges for avoiding paying taxes on his businesses in the state of New York, facing “another trial” (civil) on sexual assault in NYC, facing criminal charges for trying to overturn the election results in Georgia, facing “more” lawsuits for trying to cover-up his affairs with “Stormy Danials and with a Playboy hostess, and he could be facing criminal charges for inspiring the January 6 insurrection.

By the way, several Oath Keepers admitted they were inspired to participate in that insurrection, several of them have been convicted and sent to prison for their part in that insurrection, and several of them have expressed remorse for believing in those conspiracy theories and lies about a“rigged/stolen” election.

Five members of the The Proud Boys, another far right militia group, are facing charges for their participation in the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Far-right groups such as the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, 3 Percenters, Neo Nazis, KKK, and white Christian nationalists all support authoritarian rule (fascism). So, why do they support Trump? How can anyone claim to support democracy while at the same time support dictatorship?

People in Germany (Hitler), Italy (Mussolini), Spain (Franco), and Russia (Stalin and now Putin) found out the hard way that democracy can’t survive under authoritarian rulers.

Telling “falsehoods” (lies) and spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories have led to massive settlements against Fox News ($787 million) and Alex Jones of Infowars (nearly a billion dollars).

You can rest assured that many more cases will be forthcoming against those who have concocted lies, misinformation, and conspiracy theories.

Tucker Carlson was fired by Fox News for telling the public for years that the election was “rigged”. For claiming that foreign agents were involved in the “rigged” election results, and for claiming that liberals (Democrats) were “radicals” who preyed on children.

Words matter and truth matters, and people who continue to spread lies, misinformation, and conspiracy theories could wind up paying a high price for their actions.

As the old saying goes, “If a person is willing to commit a crime, he/she should be willing to spend the time behind bars”.

Is violence is the only recourse if one doesn’t win an election? One should resort to violence if one loses his/her case in a court of law? Forget facts, forget truths, forget science and forget the judicial system because they are all part of a conspiracy?

Please be careful about which “truths” you follow because “words” and “truth” do matter”.

In my opinion.
