Dear Editor,
Mayor Booker and Coun. Nelson (not his choice) terminated the chief administrative officer (CAO) on Feb. 14, 2024. On Feb. 20, 2024 Coun. Nelson resigned. Because of his resignation the Budget meeting is on hold.
On Feb. 21, 2024 Coun. Williams resigned.
We currently have 70 per cent of required petition signatures to recall Mayor Booker. Several villages reached out for support and information on how to proceed as they are having some of the same issues.
One of the issues is the Land Use By-Law. When we looked at this 88 page document from Parkland Community Planning, it has about 50 pages that do not pertain to a village in Alberta.
The Village of Donalda has paid $25,000 so far for this document and we will be charged to amend the parts that do not pertain to us.
This is a huge expense for any small village in Alberta.
Another issue that is similar is the high wages for CAO and village staff.
Taxpayers in the village have been referred to as “uneducated” and though there is no proof of that, council and the CAO often forget it is taxpayer money. The chain of command is taxpayers, council and then the CAO. No transparency.
The Village of Donalda will receive a letter from the Ministers Office and the Minister will appoint an administrator because the village no longer meets quorum.
