Vehicle broken into at Prairie Oasis Campground

Written by ECA Review

A vehicle was broken into at Prairie Oasis Campground between July 11 at 9 p.m. and July 12 at 9 a.m. where items were stolen from the back seat.

Cpl. Jamie Day of the Oyen RCMP stressed that vehicles should not be left unattended with keys inside it as vehicles with keys in them can be stolen quite quickly.

He noted that even if you are close to the vehicle, a thief could get into the car, start it and drive away in less than 20 seconds.

Cpl. Day also recommended car owners be diligent in locking their vehicles whenever they are not nearby, and keeping windows and sunroofs closed to prevent easy access.

“Do not keep valuables in your vehicle,” Day added.

That includes removing loose change, portable devices, sunglasses, clothing and if possible keeping your registration and insurance with you, rather than in the glove box or console.

Day urged anyone else who may have been a victim of theft in the area that evening to report it, as it might help establish a pattern and help the RCMP track and catch the individual(s) responsible.

If you have any information that could aid in the investigation please contact the Hanna RCMP at 403-854-3393.
