Town of Bashaw Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Theresa Fuller said the town is disappointed to have had a fire in one of the washrooms at Heritage Park over the weekend after someone lit a fire in a metal garbage can.
“There was pretty bad smoke damage on the inside of the men’s washroom,” said CAO Fuller. “It’s going to need some reclamation.”
Fortunately, however, she said the entire building didn’t catch fire.
“The flames were big enough to smoke and char everything in the bathroom.”
CAO Fuller added that the town is concerned because they are planning to add a washroom by the ball diamond.
“That’s a little more remote.”
Last month council approved their capital projects, which included $12,000 for a washroom at the ball diamonds.

“They needed a letter of support from council stating that their lease is extended beyond 2021,” said CAO Fuller.
