Dear Editor,
I always enjoy reading Brenda Schimke’s column and once again I believe that she has scored a bulls-eye on “Is what we see working?”, pg. 4, June 9, 2022.
I, born in USA but now a Canadian, also support gun ownership for single action rifles and shotguns and agree that there is no need for hand guns or assault style rifles like the AR-15 with large capacity magazines.
I also believe that we don’t want radical ideas up here from groups like the American National Rifle Association (NRA).
The USA is in a crisis right now, with over 250 mass shooting this year already (The Washington Post, June 2, 2022). Last year they had almost 700 mass shootings (National Public Radio, June 5, 2022).
I pray that we never catch that disease up here.
Finally, I also applaud our Canadian police who managed to clear the illegal road and bridge blockades without violence of any kind.
I hope politicians like MP Damien Kurek and MLA Nathan Cooper are listening.
