The U13 3Cs team went with a 13 – 1 win/loss record going into the playoffs and the provincial tournament, four of which went into nail biting overtime.
In the provincial tournament in Consort, Alta. the girls went 5-0 starting first by defeating Grand Prairie 4 – 3 on Thursday, March 21. Friday the 3Cs defeated Spruce Grove, 6 – 4 and Medicine Hat, 5 – 2.
In the semi final Sunday the 3Cs again defeated Grand Prairie, 4 – 3 in double overtime.
The championship game on Sunday saw the 3Cs take on Fort McMurray, winning 6 – 5 in overtime.
There are 15 girls on the team and they picked up an emergency back up goalie Abrianna Eshpeter from Stettler for Provincials.
The girls come from Oyen, Consort, Brownfield, Coronation, Castor and Halkirk.
“From the moment this team stepped on the ice for their first practice, you could see the team had what it takes to become champions,” said 3Cs coach, Ryan Schedlosky The way they treated each other as equals even though some were meeting each other for the first time. The effort they gave on the first drill showed all of us how hard they were willing to work.
“As the year went on, the teamwork, effort and fun got stronger week after week.”
