Trochu partners wth Metis Nation

Metis flag flys in the Town of Trochu. ECA Review/Submitted

The Town of Trochu partnered with Metis Nation of Alberta Local 492 Region 3 to fly their flag.

The Metis flag is the oldest Canadian patriotic flag indigenous to Canada, pre-dating the Canadian flag by over 150 years.

The flag was first used in 1815, after being presented by Alexander MacDonnell, of the North West Company.

“The flag symbolizes the creation of a new society and the infinity symbol suggests the Metis people will exist forever.”

The Town of Trochu was asked to help remember on November 11 the many Metis who had given their lives fighting beside so many others, to make Canada a strong and free country and to help spread awareness of the Metis culture and heritage during Metis week from Nov. 15 to 21, 2021.

We were asked to raise the Metis flag during these times to honour our Metis people.
