The Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni team won, 9 – 4, in a competitive and entertaining game against the Castor Cyclones Alumni during a Feb. 18 fundraising event.
The sold out hockey game and banquet was organized by Castor Minor Sports Council with all proceeds going to the arena renovation.
The Maple Leafs Alumni team included Castor’s own JD Johnson and local Darcy Tucker as well as Brad May, Trevor Kidd, Dan Daoust, Al Iafrate, Darryl Shannon, Ric Nattress, Rick Vaive, Tom Fergus, Lou Franceschetti, Nik Antropov and Craig Muni.
They were coached by Brian Turner, and had a rowdy Don Cherry (Leo Bozek) on their bench.
Cyclones players included: Mike Bozek, Aaron Compton, Bryce Cooke, Tyler Doan, Logan Downey, Scott Dyki, Dr. David Hanton, Dallas and Kelly Hildreth, Clint Hronek, Dane Jackson, Mike Lougheed, Jared McNabb, Mannie Schinner, Kelly Shaw, Jay and Steven Shipton, Troy Slemp, Chris Stewart, Mike McCallum and coach, Terry O’How.
Many sponsors made this event possible.
During the game an autographed Darcy Tucker jersey was auctioned off and purchased by Fuller Farms for $1000.
The banquet, held at Castor Community Hall, had a silent auction as well as a live player auction which gave attendees the opportunity to have a Maple Leafs player sit at their table for the evening.
The renovation to the Castor hockey arena is set to start mid-March and will focus on the concession area, dressing rooms, washrooms and arena accessibility and viewing.
Total proceeds made from the evening have yet to be released, but the event is expected to have raised $20,000 – $25,000.
