Tech review for Clearview school district

Clearview School District is ahead of many other school divisions in its implementation of district wide technology but needs to focus on keeping staff properly trained in the rapidly changing field.

Former teacher and director of learning technology, James Aitchison of Outlook Enterprises reviewed Clearview’s technology plans with the board at the June 16 meeting.

Aitchison praised Clearview for district-wide use of Chromebooks and other technologies as well as Clearview’s ‘high functioning’ tech team. But, according to Aitchison, keeping staff trained and able to use technology in the most efficient manner is essential.

“This division is doing a lot of things very well.”

Aitchison recommended that the board consider ‘growing your own’ tech people by cross training staff to develop their tech skills. With the move from desktop computers to wireless devices, the need for sufficient bandwidth is also very important, explained Aitchison.

Drawdown of reserves

Clearview will be short $721,000 to cover the 2016/17 projected budget of $34.4 million. The board approved the spring budget and the use of reserves to cover the deficit

No new trustee

The board will wait until the October 2017 elections to fill the trustee vacancy left by Staci Gerlitz, who resigned last month to move.
