Suspicious vehicle scoping out gas tanks near Hanna, Munson results in charges

The Hanna RCMP received a call of a suspicious vehicle on a rural property west of Hanna on May 20 at approximately 10:15 a.m.

The suspect was alleged to have attempted taking gas from tanks in the farm yard.  The tanks were, however, locked.

A vehicle description and photo of the suspect vehicle was provided and surrounding detachments were notified of the occurrence.

A short time later the Drumheller RCMP received a call of a suspicious vehicle west of Munson.

Drumheller members located the vehicle (which had now run out of gas) and the driver.

The driver of the vehicle, a 36-year-old male from Lacombe, Alberta is now facing the following charges:


  • Attempted theft of gas
  • Mischief
  • Released for court August 26, 2020 in Hanna.


  • Driving without a driver’s licence
  • Operate an unregistered
  • Operate an uninsured vehicle.
  • Released for court August 21, 2020 in Drumheller.


The suspect also had an active warrant for his arrest out of Bashaw for break and enter with intent.

That alleged offence occurred on May 13, 2020 in the Bashaw Detachment area.

The warrant was executed and he was released for court in Stettler on September 24, 2020.

The vehicle was impounded.

The name of the suspect isn’t being released as the charges for Hanna have not yet been sworn.
