Theresetta students and staff are enjoying a well-deserved spring break, following a month filled with teamwork, exciting opportunities, and memorable accomplishments.
March began with CARA basketball playoffs in Stettler. Both teams played well, with the boys finishing second, and the girls placing fifth.
The Grade 9 class was fortunate to attend a career fair at Gus Wetter on March 6. It’s never too early to start thinking about future career options!
Mrs. Kneller’s music classes, from Kindergarten to Grade 6 attended the Coronation Music Festival on Wed. March 8. It was a fun experience to perform on a stage in front of an audience and to enjoy the musical selections of other schools.
We were proud to come home with gold certificates.
Incredible teamwork was evident throughout our school and community on Sun. March 8, when a very successful fundraiser was held for a former student, who is battling the challenges of cancer. We are especially proud of our students, who took the initiative to get this event underway.
An informative meeting was held on Tues. March 14 concerning some exciting new plans for our school community.
Theresetta will be offering a hockey academy and the opportunity for full-time kindergarten in the 2023-2024 school year.
Our monthly school Mass was held on March 16, with the grade 5/6 class capably doing the readings.
The junior high students attended a Harm Reduction Presentation on March 20 to cover the dangers of drugs and how to make smart choices.
Mr. Fetaz’s science classes have been dealing with some “electrifying” experiences in their current units of study. In his words, “Sparks were flying!”
Mrs. Standing’s kindergarten students have been exploring nursery rhymes and fairy tales this month. The students work on numerous literacy outcomes with each rhyme, but the most fun comes from the building challenges each story provides.
They have built strong houses, a bridge, and catapults so far. After spring break they will explore Jack and the Beanstalk and build a tall, strong beanstalk out of cardstock and plastic cups.
We are pleased to have a former student, Angelina (Weber) Gandolfo, completing her first teaching practicum in our Grade 1-2 classroom.
Our CTS trailer will be arriving over spring break. It will be used for motorcycle mechanics for the remainder of the school year, followed by woodworking in the fall.
As an awesome prelude to spring break, Miss Smawley and Mrs. Thacker organized a Wellness Day for students and staff on Thurs. March 23.
Students were able to participate in a full day of wellness-themed sessions organized around mental, physical, spiritual and emotional well-being.
The day also included sessions on healthy eating, team-building, and the whole day started with a whole-school yoga session by Kathleen Charpentier.
We were so lucky to have multiple new presenters this year to share new experiences with our students.
Cheryl Rayfield brought the energy with a Pound session for each grade, and all the students absolutely loved the rhythmic workout! Presenters, Mud and Lotus, engaged the students in an enjoyable sound bath experience, which is a very relaxing form of meditation where all sorts of unique musical instruments are used to create an immersive experience that reduces anxiety, stress and tension.
Students also got to participate in an emotional well-being session with Tomi Turnbull, who is our school’s FSL worker. Tomi worked with each class on activities related to self-esteem and her engaging activities allowed students an opportunity to reflect on their personal experiences.
Principal Hepp facilitated a healthy eating session throughout the day which had each class thinking about their healthy habits and ended with them making and enjoying a smoothie snack!
Teachers led their homeroom classes through mental health and spiritual well-being sessions, and many great class discussions were had as students reflected on these essential aspects of their well-being.
The day ended with all classes back in the gym to participate in some whole-school team-building activities, including an energetic game of Giants, Knights, and Wizards, followed by a Human Knot small group activity, and a card tower challenge.
Overall, it was an amazing day and a wonderful way to send everyone off to their relaxing Spring Break!
