Strome, Elsina Alberta

Written by ECA Review

Elsina Alberta Strome was born on Oct. 16, 1926, in Castor, Ab. to parents Pearl and Milton Strome.
She was the sixth child in a family of 14 that lived on a farm north of Castor.
What a great place to grow up.
She also had older sisters and brothers who looked after her and younger brothers and sisters to enjoy and have fun with.
Elsina was always a happy, cheerful girl with lots of energy and so ready to join in work and play.
Being the oldest of four girls in a row, she was always a very good leader for the younger ones.
Elsina took Grades 1 to 9 in a small country school and Grade 10 by correspondence.
She loved birds and knew where all their nests were.
She also knew the wild flowers by name and where they grew.
As a young girl, she learned to swim and ski down the hills on the farm.
Elsina loved books and could spend many hours in them reading, colouring and sketching.
Elsina painted beautiful oil and acrylic pictures and enjoyed sketching people and writing stories.
After her school years, Elsina was employed in various homes.
If a Mom was sick and needed help with the children or a new baby arrived, she would help look after the older kids.
She would help the neighbour ladies cook for the crews at threshing time.
She worked in homes in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer and many smaller places in between.
She was loved by the children in these homes.
Her nieces and nephews adored her and kept in touch throughout the years.
Elsina worked for several years at the Paintearth Lodge while helping Mom with her garden and housework.
She stayed on in Mom’s house for many years, eventually moving into the Manor and then into the Lodge.
She liked playing games with her family.
Though they would tease her lots, she always had a quick and ready answer for them.
Elsina was a constant companion with Dan and Dora and shared her love and life with all who knew her.
What wonderful memories she leaves us all.
Elsina will be forever loved and remembered by her sisters Hazel Annett, Dora Morasch, Vi Collins, Bea (Vic) Tschritter and Ruby (Dave) Lopetinsky; as well as brothers Ernie and Danny (Elda); sisters-in-law Joyce Strome and Brenda; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of many friends.
Elsina was predeceased by her parents Milton and Pearl Strome; sisters Mary Ann (Art) Pedersen and Susie (Jim) Bedson; brothers Clarence, Wes (Marj), Henry and Walter; brothers-in-law Dan Morasch, Johnny Annett, Graham Clark and Harold Collins.
Funeral services were held at Evangelical Missionary Church on Tues., April 17, 2018, led by Pastor Brent Siemens and Jim Culham gave the tribute.
Burial took place at Markham Cemetery with Ernie Strome, Bill Bedson, Danny Strome, Pat Annett, Ken Strome, Randy Strome as pallbearers.
