Gerhard Emil Strohschein was born May 16, 1929 in Craigmyle, Alta.
He and his family moved around Alberta and B.C., settling on the farm east of Alix, Alta. in 1945.
With the exception of a few years, his roots grew strong and deep and he stayed there on the farm until a few months ago.
Gerhard had a brief stay in the Lacombe Hospital and received outstanding, compassionate care from all the staff, especially the nurses in Unit A.
Gerhard was a man of many talents and worked at many things over the years including hauling coal, managing the Alix Hotel, being a tap-man in the Lacombe Hotel and doing road and pipeline construction.
While doing all these things, he continued to farm and raise Black Angus cattle.
Gerhard leaves to mourn his wife of almost 62 years, Lavelle; his children Cindy (Mike), Lory (Paul), Beth, Michelle (Frank), William (Donna) and Randy.
Also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his brother Hugo (Helen) and nieces and nephews.
Gerhard was predeceased by his parents, Emmanuel and Ida Strohschein, sister Eleonor and grandchildren Jessica and Samantha.
Funeral Services will be held at the Alix Community Centre, Alix, Alta. on Fri., Aug. 2, 2019 at 2 p.m. with interment to follow in the Alix Cemetery.
