Drumheller-Stettler MLA Rick Strankman
I have written the Speaker of the Assembly, the Hon. Robert E. Wanner, this morning, and I requested that I be seated as an independent MLA effective Immediately.
In 2012 when I took the oath of office, I insisted on adding the words “and ALL Albertans”.
My intention then as now, is to uphold that oath, and continue to do so, to do what’s best for the constituents of Drumheller Stettler and the people of Alberta.
I was elected in 2012 and again in 2015 on determined grassroots principles.
Since the amalgamation of the Wildrose and the Progressive Conservative parties, it is becoming increasingly clear to me that this is not including the grassroots principles of strong conservative Albertan values.
The hyper-partisan self-centred politics we see at play again today in Alberta has degenerated the direct grassroots representation of Albertans to a point where their best interests are being put behind unwritten party interests.
That is simply not acceptable to the hard-working Albertans within this constituency that are urging me to sit as an independent member.
Sitting as an independent removes me from the current undemocratic atmosphere that is being fostered.
At this time, I will concentrate on Economic development as well as Property Rights entrenchment within the diverse constituency of Drumheller-Stettler and Alberta.
Most sincerely and with deep reverence,
Rick Strankman, MLA Drumheller-Stettler
