Still recording and touring

Fjellgaard

The Swalwell Community Centre welcomed 81-year-old Juno winner and Canada’s leading roots musician Gary Fjellgaard and 100 patrons Oct. 27.

Still recording and touring after more than 40 years in the business, Fjellgaard’s longevity recipe is straightforward: take the motorhome to little places like Withrow (east of Rocky Mountain House) and Swalwell and then push on to bigger centers where his homey stories and songs recall gentler days and a softer concert style—no stacks of power speakers, big back up band, smoke, or flashing lights.

As Swalwell resident and veteran entertainer BJ Smith said to an appreciative crowd, “The mark of a true musician is the ability to use a guitar and nothing else to touch the audience.”
