The Stettler Redcore Enterprises Storm women’s hockey team travelled to Viking to take on the Battle River Heat on Saturday January 18, in a spirited match against the number two team in the league.

The first period was fast paced end to end action with both teams demonstrating excellent defensive strategies until Lexi Antos took advantage of a Storm defensive breakdown and scored on a breakaway with 2:30 left in the period.

Stettler found themselves spending most of the second period shorthanded after taking nine penalties. The Storm penalty killers were fantastic keeping the play in the Heat’s zone. The hard work was rewarded when  Makayla Peters scored on a pass from Morgan Van Dusen late in the period to tie the game at one-all.

The Storm came out hard in the third and took the lead when Jessie Anderson scored. Kennedy Fisher and Jennifer Hallett got the assists.

Battle River fought back and with less than two minutes on the clock tied the game on a Jenna Acorn goal.

For the second time in a row the game ended in a two-all tie.

The Storm fired 30 shots total at Keyanna Stots and Lindsey McKinnon faced 22 shots in the game.

Next up the Storm take on the Panthers from Bonnyville, then take on Sherwood Park in a Provincial Play down game.
