Stettler will welcome new doctor

Paperwork is being expedited to facilitate Dr. Fairfax-Crone’s move to Stettler. This was welcome news for town councillors at their  meeting on May 21, 2013.
Dr. Fairfax-Crone is not required to go through a three month practicum as physicians from Scotland are exempt from that requirement.
Once settled she can immediately start her practice.
Alberta Health Services has approved two more physicians for Stettler and recruitment efforts are ongoing.
Tenders for the upgrade to the Stettler Recreation Centre will be going out shortly.
A grant was received from the federal government to assist with the library and parking lot.
The County of Stettler committed $140,000 to the library portion of the upgrade.
Tanille Timmins has been appointed to the Stettler Library Board Committee.  She and her family recently moved back to Stettler after 10 years in Calgary.
Approval was given for a new skateboard park on the south side of Recreation Road, adjacent to the ball diamond and near West Park Walkway.
A survey of skateboard parks sited near walkways and other outside family activities in Airdrie, Olds and Stony Plain found no concerns. In fact, walkers often stopped to watch kids perform on their skateboards.
Lee Penner said a design meeting will be held at the end of May.  There has been no word on any grants forthcoming at this time.
The Town has asked the County to reconsider its decision not to be a 50 – 50 partner with the relocation of the Seniors’ Centre to the Stettler Recreation Centre.  The County and Town have been excellent partners in providing many services and facilities that jointly serve their respect constituents.
Administration had an initial meeting with meter supplier and staff to look at options for replacing water meters in Stettler.
The Town has proclaimed June 3 – 9, 2013 as Senior Citizens’ Week.  Lunch socials will be held on June 3 (Paragon Place), June 4 (Heart Haven Lodge) and June 5 (Willow Creek Lodge).
The week will conclude with a floor curling event on June 6 beginning at 3 p.m. at the Seniors’ Drop-in Centre.
