Stettler council approves trip to conference

Stettler’s mayor, one councillor and the chief administrative officer will attend the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Annual Conference and Trade Show in Halifax.
The cost for flights, hotel, meals and registration comes to about $10,000 for the conference that runs from May 31 to June 3.
Town council, during its regular meeting Jan. 3, also approved paying the FCM $1,448 for its membership dues in 2018, which includes $143 for the FCM’s optional legal defense fund.
The town’s Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Steve Gerlitz said it’s beneficial for the town to be a member of the FCM and to participate in its optional legal defence fund.
The FCM acts as a voice for Canada’s local governments and is the organization that secured the Gas Tax Fund and GST Rebate for municipalities, which they use for local infrastructure.
