Each year, draft budgets are rolled out for council to approve or deny.
The Heartland Beautification Committee maintains the duties to present Stettler as a well-kept town that prides itself on its appearance.
It is divided into subcommittees for things as simple as tidiness and parks and trees.
Each subcommittee requires a certain amount of monetary funds for the year.
This year, they requested a budget for $22,200 from council on the Tues. Oct. 19 meeting.
This amount is consistent with the past three years including 2018.
They have goals in 2019 to increase the overall awareness of the committee and upcoming projects and to increase engagement and participation of youth.
They also wish to continue participation in the Communities in Bloom national competition.
Council moved to accept this budget, allotment of $22,200 for the committee in the 2019 Capital Budget.
Stettler accepts regional library budget
The town was presented with another budget to consider, this being the 2019 Parkland Regional Library Budget.
The Regional Library requested council accept a requisition of $8.25 which is a 1.66 per cent increase from last year at $8.12.
That being said, Stettler’s population of 5952 will make the budget increase by $773.
A motion was made to accept the budget which was carried.
Council will also send a letter before November 1 outlining this approval.
