Starland history to appear on podcast

Written by Terri Huxley

Starland County was recently approached by a historical podcast to showcase the municipality and its interesting past.

Craig Baird, who has made about 50 sponsored episodes from communities from B.C. to Ontario, is now on the hunt for communities within Alberta that hold a special history that can be shared.

He offered to create a 15-40 minute episode on Starland with research and production up to him on his show called Canadian History Ehx.

The podcast garners between 1,500 and 2000 downloads with 80 per cent of listeners from Canada.

Council agreed to go forward with the deal, agreeing to give $250 for the episode.

Once it is created, it will be available on any podcast streaming service.

Seniors Foundation

The Drumheller District Seniors Foundation shared the county’s share of equalized assessment via correspondence.

Starland, behind the Town of Drumheller, pays 40.72 per cent equal to $401,092 for the year.

Administration shared they have 90 days to pay this bill and stated this amount is slightly less than last year’s.

ASB annual appointments

A number of appointments were made for the Agricultural Service Board (ASB) as per annual requirements.

Agricultural Fieldmen Ryan Hallett and Dara Kudras were appointed as weed inspectors, Ag pest control officers and soil conservation officers.

Second was the appointment of an independent Appeal Committee for the Agricultural Pest Act and the Soil Conservation Act.

This consists of Kody Kopjar, Barry Mason, Logan Olsen, Lindsay Burnett and Terra Adams who are also appointed to the Ag Pest Act Appeal Committee.
