The municipal excellence award for innovation was awarded to Starland County by the Minister of Municipal Affairs, Minister Deron Bilous. The award for innovation recognizes a leading practice embodying the first use of an idea in a municipal context in Alberta and was granted to Starland County for their work with the Starland Solar Initiative.

“We were honored to receive this award from Minster Bilous,” says Jordan Webber, Economic Development Officer. “It is exciting that the government recognizes this effort with renewable energy as innovative and significant.

“We truly believe alternative energy technologies that pentrate our communities are the way of the future. All of our partners, including Bull Frog Power, the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre and especially our local residents and farmers should be proud of what we are accomplishing together!”

In the last two years Starland County has been successful in supporting the installation of over 150kW of photovoltaic solar on residences in addition to county projects. Our program and available incentive are ongoing.
Starland County also actively supports other communities interested in engaging this exciting technology.

“The time is now to get involved with solar. The price of this technology has dropped 70 per cent in the last three years and we have a great solar resource to take advantage of.”
