At the regular meeting on Aug. 8, council accepted the sidewalk assessment report that was prepared by SafeSideWalks and agreed to bring forward suggestions for a sidewalk replace/maintenance plan.
Now council is wanting direction to start developing a policy and get feedback from the public about what they think about sidewalks in the village.
During the committee of the whole discussion on Sept. 5, Dep. Mayor Bob Coutts volunteered to make a draft map of where the most important sidewalks might be to bring to council at a future meeting.
Information will be gathered at a public meeting happening this autumn.
Council approved a 1 per cent increase in electrical franchise fees from 9 per cent to 10 per cent effective January 1, 2020.
ATCO Electric allows for an annual review of the franchise fee percentage in the Franchise Fee Agreement.
Currently, the Village charges a 9 per cent franchise fee which results in approximately $82,000 in revenue.
The maximum franchise fee allowed is 20 per cent.
The last increase in this franchise fee took effect on January 1, 2015 when it increased from 7 per cent to 9 per cent.
A 1 per cent increase will result in an increase in monthly electric charges of approximately $1.23 per residential bill.
