Show at Hanna brings to end busy 4-H year

Saturday, June 8, 2013 brought to the end a very busy 4-H year for the Dryland Multi Club from Youngstown, AB.  4-H members arrived at the Hanna Arena bright and early to get their projects ready for the show.  First in the ring were the females.  Cordell Nelson placed first and Kate Nelson second with their heifers.  In the 2 year old class; Kate was first and Cordell second.  For the 3 year olds Sage Nelson was first and Cordell second.  Cordell was our only member with a herd.
The Champion female for the club went to Sage Nelson with her 3 year old and Reserve Champion was Kate Nelson with her 2 year old.  After all the clubs showed their females it was time for the Interclub competition.  Cordell received:  Reserve Champion Heifer, 2 year old, and herd.  Kate received:  Grand Champion 2 year old, Reserve Champion cow/calf and Reserve Female with her 2 year old.  Sage received:  Grand Champion 3 year old, Cow/calf and Grand Champion Female.
After the Females it was the lamb members turn to show their animals, being the only club with sheep the show winners are as follows:  Grand Champion Lamb – Leslie Snell, Reserve Champion Lamb – Nathan Ball.  For Showmanship & Grooming Nathan Ball first for Sr., Intermediate:  1st – Jaxen Tattrie, 2nd – Kallee Hausauer, Junior: 1st – Dixon Tattrie, 2nd – Spencer Hogan.  Rate of Gain went to Nathan Ball.
Steer project winners were: Grand Champion in the Dryland club went to Clay Andrew, who went on the win the District Grand Champion.  Reserve Champion at the club level went to Kate Nelson.  Grooming winners were Senior: 1st – Clay Andrew (District Champion too), 2nd – Austin Andrew, Intermediate – 1st –  Kate Nelson, 2nd  –  Cordell Nelson, Junior:  1st  – Spencer MacMillan, 2nd  – Jace Powell.  Showmanship – Senior: 1st – Austin Andrew, 2nd – Clay Andrew, Intermediate:  1st – Sage Nelson, 2nd – Cordell Nelson, (both were District Champions too) Junior:  1st – Sarah MacPherson, 2nd – Jace Powell.  Jace and Kate won District Rate of Gain as well.  In the evening the animals were sold.
The winners of the Carcass project were also announced, Brody Tattrie placed first and Ainsley Nelson was second.  Dixon Tattrie won the evaluation contest and Junior judging.  Jaxen Tattrie won Intermediate judging and Brody won the Senior judging.
