Clearview Public Schools is pleased to announce that Shauna-lee Thomas has joined the Board of Trustees.
Trustee Ken Checkel has retired after 23 years of service representing the Brownfield and Coronation area.
Thomas will now represent that area. Thomas and all Clearview trustees were acclaimed in the October 2021 municipal election.
“Shauna-lee’s school council background and experience living in a rural community will be invaluable on our Board,” says Guy Neitz, Clearview Board Chair. “She understands the strengths that small schools have in Clearview and for the communities they serve.”
Thomas grew up in Brownfield and is raising her family there, running a mixed cattle and grain operation.
She has served on the school council at Brownfield School for 13 years and as the chair for nine years.
Thomas has a diploma in Geomatics Engineering and most recently earned a diploma in Applied Nutrition.
She and her husband Wayne have four children aged 11 to 17.
The oldest two attend school in Coronation and the youngest children attend in Brownfield.
It is Thomas’s commitment to contribute to strong rural communities that motivated her decision to put her name forward to join Clearview’s School Board.
“I believe strong communities build resilient children and it does truly ‘take a village’ to raise them,” said Thomas. “I love living and raising my family in a rural community and appreciate the opportunity to bring that perspective to the Board.”
She added, “Clearview is already on a great trajectory and I’m looking forward to being a part of that. I appreciate the community engagement I’ve seen from Clearview. I think that makes a difference; it connects the division and its students to their communities.”
Thomas was sworn in on Oct. 6, 2021 at the Board’s organizational meeting. The next meeting of the Board is Oct. 27, 2021.
