Senior girls golf team wins zone

Hughenden school help carry Terry Fox’s legacy forward by participating in the annual school walk/run on Sept. 30.

Hughenden Wildcats senior girls and boys golf teams travelled to Silver Creek Golf Course for the CASAA zone championship on Sept. 21 with their first girls’ team.

The girls finished in 1st place with performances from Lindsay Almberg (101), Bailey VanKoughnett (112), Milan Cuthbert (152) and Jordan Tainsh (153).

The boys team finish in fourth place on performances by Seth Holte (91), Luke Almberg (99), Cody Sather (101) and Isaac Sayer (104).

Lindsay Almberg also won an individual gold medal for her score of 101. Lindsay travelled to Grand Prairie to compete in Provincials Oct. 4 and she finished in the top 25 at the ASAA Golf Provincials.

During the cross-country run in Vermilion on Sept. 22 , Makenna Lomheim finished second in Grade 5 girls, Hunter Motley finished fourth in Grade 5 boys and  Reagan Lomheim and Ashton Penman placed in the top 10 for their age categories.

These same runners competed in the Hardisty meet on Oct. 1 and Hunter placed fifth, Makenna sixth, Nolan Johnson eighth and Reagan Lomheim tenth.

Once again the grad class is hosting the annual christmas market Nov. 28 and in addition to this fundraiser, the grads are also selling Christmas trees and wreaths.

The magazine fundraiser commences this week and the proceeds support school programs to encourage reading.

October 14 Hughenden school is hosting a special leadership conference open to all young people and schools in the area. This event promises to be a great opportunity to learn how to improve leadership skills for all areas of life including the school and community.

A Halloween dance is being organized for Oct. 30 so mark your calendars and start planning your costumes.

Each month Hughenden Public School celebrates student achievements in their monthly achievement tree and accelerated reader (AR) assembly which celebrates reading as well as the growth and learning for grades 4 to 9.

This month’s winners: grade 4 – Bryden Laing and Brooklyn Griffith; grade 5 – Lyndon Day and grade 6 –  Ethan Miller and Wyatt Laing

Winners of the $10 scholastic book order certificates were Brooklyn Griffith, Lyndon Day and Wyatt Laing.

Winner of the $10 Walmart gift card was Bryden Laing.

Winner of the Parkland Library membership (Czar, Amisk or Hughenden) was Ethan Miller.
