Royals win silver at provincial finals

Coronation Royals finished second at provincials July 19 - 21 in Red Deer. The Coronation Royals Mosquito A baseball team headed to Red Deer July 19 – 21 for the final weekend of provincial play downs. Pool A consisted of Red Deer (Red), Barrhead and Stettler and Pool B was made up of Red Deer (Blue), Sherwood Park and Coronation.
Game one of the round robin for the Royals was Friday afternoon and it saw Coronation defeat Red Deer (Blue) 16 – 6. Cauy Schmidt was named game MVP for the Royals.
Early Saturday the Royals defeated Sherwood Park 18 – 8. Chase Tkach was named game MVP for the Royals for his enthusiasm and team spirit, as he was in the dug out cheering on his team even with a cast on his arm.
Two wins put the Coronation Royals in first place in Pool B with Red Deer (Blue) second and Sherwood Park in third. Stettler finished first in Pool A with Red Deer (Red) second and Barrhead third.
The semi-final match-ups were Stettler vs. Red Deer (Blue) and Coronation vs. Red Deer (Red). Stettler won the first semi-final 14 – 7 against Red Deer (Blue). The Coronation Royals then defeated Red Deer (Red) in the second semi-final 14 – 11. Gage Selzler was named game MVP for the Royals in the semi-final.
After a short break, the Royals hit the diamond again to play for the provincial championship against Stettler. The Royals played hard but strong pitching from Stettler managed to keep the Royals from stringing together many hits which resulted in a 10 – 1 loss. Cole Almusa was named game MVP for the Royals in the final.
