In response to a request from the Byemoor Colony, council voted to donate the retired County fire truck to the colony.
Byemoor Colony has a long history of fire protection back up in the southeast area of the county. Seniors Week
Council voted unanimously to proclaim June 5 to 10 Senior’s Week.
During the week, members of council will make presentations and present fruit trays to different senior’s organization throughout the County.
Expenses will be cost-shared between the County of Stettler, Town of Stettler and villages accordingly.
Villages in the county planning lunch socials include Botha on June 5, Donalda on June 8 and Big Valley on June 15
Steel Wheel Stampede
Unfinished business arising from April’s council meeting included further discussion concerning the Steel Wheel Stampede committee’s request for support for their annual rodeo.
While debating the merits of sponsoring the Stettler Stampede, Councillor Dave Grover reminded council of the other rodeos in the area and questioned if council would sponsor the Steel Wheel and not other community rodeos within the county.
The motion to award $7,000 to sponsor the Stettler Steel Wheel Stampede was defeated.
