Three children were born to this union, Melvin, Keith and Eileen. Then on November 13, 1962 Walter tragically passed away at 27 years of age leaving Dorothy to raise their three children. She tackled this as she approached her entire life, with her strong belief in God, her independent spirit and her keen sense of humour. After moving to Coronation in 1968, she started working at the Coronation Post Office where she was promoted to Post Master in 1982, a position she held until she retired in 1995. She loved her job, and the people she served, taking a great pride in making sure the mail got out on time, her customers were always served with a smile, and the post office ran efficiently.
On January 5, 1996, tragedy again struck her life when her second child, Keith passed away suddenly, but again her strong belief in God got her through this hard time. Dorothy passed away on August 8, 2011 in Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital in Castor at the age of 82. She is lovingly remembered by her children; Melvin Reister and his wife Jo-Ann; Eileen Taylor and her husband Wes; her daughter-in-law, Lois Ward; her five grandchildren, Amy Reister, Greg Reister, Chantel Nichols and husband Nathan, Matthew Taylor, and Ashley Taylor, her sister, Mary Black and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She is predeceased by her husband Walter and son Keith. She will always be remembered for her wonderful sense of humour, her strong, independent spirit, and her love for her family and friends. The funeral service for Dorothy Evelyn Reister was conducted on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the Evangelical Free Church, Coronation, AB with Nathan Nichols officiating.
