Pigeon racer/breeder Ron Benjamin holds a 12-day old pigeon chick (right)  that is still feathering out.

Pigeons generally set on two eggs for a 28-day incubation period and Benjamin lets them set only once or twice per year. The birds grow rapidly. The chicks (left) are only a few days old. ECA Review/D.Johnston
