Wayne Allan Peterson of Hanna, Ab. passed away on Thurs. Nov. 24 at the Rockyview General Hospital at the age of 71 years.
Wayne Peterson grew up in the Chinook community and attended school at Chinook. He left school early and pursued his interests in the oil field, farming and operating heavy equipment.
His career eventually took him to the position of foreman for Special Areas, where he remained for 24 years, retiring in 2000 at the age of 55.
Finding he had too much time on his hands, he did stints hauling laundry for the hospital, ferrying cars for Hanna Motors and helping neighbours with farming.
Wayne had a huge reputation for being a tease and practical joker. His sense of humour was legendary. He could dish it out and he could sure take it.
Wayne was a very social person and had a wide variety of interests including coffee, cards, visiting, working at the rummage sale and attending jamborees. He also never missed a family event.
Wayne loved to travel. He and Shirley made trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Florida, California, to the Shuswap for house boating and spent the last five years as snow birds in Casa Grande, Arizona.
Wayne is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 47 years, Shirley; brother, Gerald (Bev); brother-in-law, Herb Blagen; Shirley’s mother, Ada Stilling; her sister, Fran (Ernie) Derkach); sister-in-law, Elaine Stilling; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wayne is predeceased by his father, George; mother, Florence; brother, Donald (Edith); sister, Norma Blagen; father-in-law, Frank Stilling; and brothers-in-law, Clarence and Jim (Vicky) Stilling.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at the Hanna Community Centre, 503 – 5 Avenue West, Hanna, Ab. on Fri. Dec. 9 at 1:30 pm.
