Verna Pearl Pengelly
June 3, 1938 – April 17, 2023

Verna, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at the Coronation Hospital on April 17, 2023.

Verna was born to Evelyn and Earl Truman on June 3, 1938 in Midale, Sask. She was the oldest of 10 children.
Verna met and was married to John Pengelly in Midale, Sask. on Nov. 12, 1957. To this joyous union, two children were born; Barbra Gayle and Barrie John.

John and Verna started out their married life in Estevan, Sask. Due to John’s work in the oil industry, the family made several moves throughout Saskatchewan before putting down their roots in Coronation, Alberta in 1970.

Verna was a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed filling their home with the smell of freshly baked bread and cookies.

Together John and Verna were involved in community clubs and organizations such as Kinsmen and Kinettes. Verna was an active member of The Oilwives Club for 25 plus years; also volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels and at the Coronation Food Bank.

Verna thoroughly enjoyed travelling with the love of her life, John. Their adventures lead them to places such as Hawaii, New Zealand and Fiji. They spent many winters in Arizona where they played golf, met new friends and never missed a happy hour.

Verna liked to golf, curl and watch any sport on T.V. She especially loved to watch the Blue Jays and the Roughriders.
She was a stellar crib player and a crossword puzzle whiz! She never forgot a birthday or anniversary.

Verna was predeceased by her mother Evelyn and her fathers, Earl Truman and Alton Affie; her husband John, brother Richard and sister Susan.

Verna will be sadly missed by her family; Barb (Colin) Weiss and family Angela (Chad) and Jennifer (Gideon); Barrie (Tammy) Pengelly and family Barrie (Kristie), Bridget (Jason), Brad (Courtney), Frazer (Des); along with nine great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held on May 13, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Coronation Cemetery.
