Oyen to receive funding for seniors affordable housing for feasibility studies

Seven affordable housing and seniors housing projects across Alberta will benefit from a $1.4-million provincial boost.
Oyen was one community approved for Aging in Community rural pilot project, for $100,000.
As part of the Provincial Affordable Housing Strategy, a significant government investment will allow housing providers to explore options for building and renewing seniors housing and affordable homes in Alberta.
Other housing projects approved for planning included: Parkview Village, Calgary – $250,000; Various projects, Fort Saskatchewan – $250,000; Spruce Cliff Downs (replacement), Calgary – $250,000; Piyami Lodge, Picture Butte – $250,000; Silver Willow Lodge, Nanton – $250,000 and the Metis Urban Housing Corporation, Edmonton – $100,000
Housing providers bring forward proposals to the Ministry of Seniors and Housing and are allocated funds depending on the community’s needs.
The planning funding associated with these projects will assist government and the organizations to plan future capital projects.
Housing proposals that receive planning funding may not receive development funds and move on to the construction phase.
The planning stage of the project involves scope, cost-definition and feasibility studies.
