Over 25 RCMP officers respond to Wainwright home invasion

Wainwright RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion on 6 Avenue in Wainwright, where one male allegedly forced entry into a residence and was armed with a firearm on Aug. 16, 2021, shortly after 10 a.m.

In excess of 25 RCMP police officers from multiple RCMP detachment areas in both Alberta and Saskatchewan were quick to respond.

Preliminary investigation reveals the armed male suspect had reportedly stolen a pick-up truck from a nearby location, prior to forcing entry into this residence.

The reportedly stolen pick-up truck was located nearby by police. After the driver failed to stop for police, a police pursuit was initiated in Wainwright. 

The police pursuit continued through multiple RCMP jurisdictions.

The suspect allegedly fired a firearm at the police officers pursuing him.

RCMP continued to pursue the suspect and a tire deflation device was eventually deployed.

The suspect vehicle was rendered inoperable.

The 37-year-old driver, of Red Deer, was placed under arrest and is in police custody.

Public safety is no longer at risk. No physical injuries to the public or police officers occurred during this incident.
