A map was provided to show which section of 54 Street was suggested to be added with a speed bump by a resident. ECA Review/Submitted
At the regular meeting of council held on Thurs. Sept. 2, Forestburg council decided to refrain from having a speed bump installed after a request was made earlier.
Deputy Mayor Bob Coutts spoke with a resident who asked to have it in place at 54 Street West as well as 57 Street as they had “concerns that people get up to a high speed.”
The speed limit on that road is 30 km/hr.
Council shared sentiments that there is an increase in speed on these main roads due to school coming back into session but overall were not going to move forward with speed bumps in these areas.
No action will be taken.
Tax penalties remain
A request by a resident was given to village councillors for a decision to have tax penalties waived in the amount of $171.73 as the person shared in the request they had misplaced the cheque for the original tax payment.
The taxes were paid in full on Aug. 26, 2021 with the exception of the penalty.
According to the Village of Forestburg Bylaw 12:2021, Tax Rate Bylaw Part 1 sections 3: ‘All taxes shall be due and payable, without penalty, up to and including Aug. 15, 2021.
‘A penalty of 10 per cent shall be added to all unpaid current taxes on Aug. 16, 2021.’
Council agreed with administration’s recommendation that the penalty not be waived and to have the full amount paid to the village.
