Wayne Nixon was re-elected as reeve at the Stettler County Organizational Meeting held prior to the regular meeting Oct. 14. Coun. Greggory Jackon will continue to act as deputy reeve until Oct. 31 at which time Coun. Dave Grover will take his turn in the eight month rotation.
Time is up for lakeshore residents
Following a number of requests from Buffalo Lake landowners for extensions to the November 2015 deadline for removal of private property encroachments on public lands, such as boat docks or lifts, council voted to stay the course for the November deadline.
The lease agreements property owners held with the country to utilize public lands are set to expire in November. Owners are required to have any encroachments removed to their own property.
Some encroachments may require a frozen lake in order to remove them. In those cases, the county may consider granting extensions. Council opted to deal with requests on a case-by-case basis rather than providing a blanket extension.
Recycling complaints
Five Star Ventures will replace CanPack Environmental Waste Management and Recycling as the county’s provider of recycling services.
The change follows complaints and overall dissatisfaction with CanPack’s poor service record, primarily getting bins emptied.
Traffic signage reviewed
Coun. James Nibourg would like to see a review of county road signage following a request from a ratepayer to eliminate a stop sign on Warden Road (TWP 382) and Range Road 212 and give right of way to east/west traffic on Warden Road.
CAO Tim Fox suggested it might be better to review entire sections of roads rather than making piecemeal changes.
Suggestion box
Coun. Dave Grover put forward a motion for the addition of a suggestion box at the front desk of the county office.
Grover wanted the box available for people who prefer not to use the county’s other means of communication. Council voted to support the motion.
