Town of Stettler council started on a light note celebrating the Mosquito baseball team on their gold medal at provincials on Tues. Sept. 4.

The Mosquito AA Tier 2 Provincials were held in Barrhead from Fri. August 3 – 5.

They started the season in June. “The boys put in a lot of hard work, a lot of hard practices,” said coach Jeremy Klapak.

Coach Greg Risler was also in attendance while coach Jeff MacDonald was unable to make the meeting.

“Provincial final weekend was pretty good,” Klapak continued. “First game we got a little bit of revenge on the boys from Didsbury that beat us out in hockey provincials.”

In the semifinals, Stettler beat the host team 3 – 2 which landed them in the last game which ‘was tight until the fifth inning.’

“We scored eight runs with two outs so it was good,” said Klapak. This is the first year the Stettler team competed in Tier 2 after last year’s team was able to push them into the higher tier.

All 11 players and two out of the three coaches accepted a plaque commemorating their hard work this season which was presented by Mayor Sean Nolls.
