1949 – 2018
Margaret Morrison was born in Gloucester, England on August 10, 1949 to Ted and Margaret Karran and passed away on May 02, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital in Edmonton at the age of 68.
Margaret’s early years were spent in England, Germany and Scotland living on a number of different Air Force bases.
When her father retired from the Air Force the family moved to the Isle of Man, and lived there for two years before moving to Coronation in 1961.
This move was a huge one for the family, and a homecoming for Dad who was born in Hardisty.
Margaret well remembered the adventure of a week long boat trip across the Atlantic Ocean, and her twelfth birthday on the train platform in Winnipeg.
Margaret graduated from Coronation High School in 1969.
She then moved to Edmonton where she worked for a number of years before returning to school.
She attended Grant MacEwan College where she attained her Library Technician certification.
Following graduation from Grant MacEwan, Margaret went to work at the City of Edmonton downtown library where she was employed for many years.
Margaret was an avid reader, making short work of even the largest books.
She loved cats, not just as pets, but as artwork, wall hangings and constant Facebook postings.
She loved visits to Jasper, and especially enjoyed watching car racing.
Margaret’s health started to decline in 2013, and after an extended hospital stay she was relocated to St. Joseph’s where she resided till her passing.
Margaret loved her friends and the staff at St. Josephs, and will be fondly remembered for her cheerful smile and the happy summer days she spent in the garden reading and tending the tomatoes and flowers.
We are very thankful to the staff at St. Joseph’s for the wonderful care provided to Margaret, and especially to Chaplain Trevor Ellerby for his care and compassion.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents Ted and Margaret.
She leaves to mourn her brother Bill Karran (Sonia) of Okotoks, nephews Jeffrey Karran (Amber) of Calgary, David Karran (Jessica) of Okotoks and niece Kimberly Nadon (Randy) of Okotoks.
At Margaret’s request no funeral service will be held.
Margaret’s ashes will be interred in the Coronation Cemetery.
If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital, 10707-29th Ave NW, Edmonton, Alberta T6J 6W1.
