Miller out, Giroux in following election recount in Forestburg

A ballot recount was held during the Forestburg village council meeting on Wed., Oct. 18 which resulted in former mayor and councillor Peter Miller losing his seat to Dwayne Giroux.
According to village Chief Administrative Officer, Debra Moffat there was a one vote difference between the fifth and sixth place candidates following the Forestburg village municipal election held on Mon., Oct. 16, 2017.
Moffatt told the ECA Review that the sixth place candidate requested a recount to review for spoiled ballots.
It was determined that the election did in fact result in one spoiled ballot where a voter had numbered their choices instead of simply checking a box. Therefore it was decided this ballot would be included in the recount (because it was clear who the voter’s first choice was) which ended up resulting in a tie between Miller and Giroux.
The names were drawn from the hat by an individual who does not live in Forestburg and Dwayne Giroux was declared elected.

Young elected Mayor
Newly appointed Coun. Blaise Young was elected for the position of Mayor for the Village of Forestburg after being nominated by incumbent Coun. Bob Coutts.
Coutts himself was nominated for the position but declined the honour however he was elected to the position of Deputy Mayor by acclamation.
