Larry Lyle Metzger passed away in the Calgary Foothills Hospital on April 14, 2020 with Wendy at his side.

Larry was born Dec. 27, 1958 in the Hanna Hospital.

He was third and youngest child of Melvin and Violet Metzger.

Larry took his schooling in Craigmyle, Delia and in Drumheller and specialized in mechanics and welding.

Larry was a man of many jobs and loved them all. He started work at the Massey Ferguson dealership of Laughlin and Wade.

He also worked as a farmhand for his cousin Darryl Raugust at Delia, worked at the Schrocks Quadrock Trucking in Drumheller, and driving a truck for Archie Kittler of Hanna.

Larry adventured into his own business, Lar’s Subsoiling, and deep ploughed many farmer’s fields.

Larry then became a shadow to Phil Madge for many years and he continued to help mentor Lane Madge up until his passing.

Another career saw Larry working for Richard Crowle’s Welding off and on for 21 years as the Texas gate builder, and one year he made 206 texas gates.

If Larry wasn’t working he could be found at the Gladdish farm lending a hand.

Larry never turned down the opportunity to have a good time.

He enjoyed going for drives and never wanted to take the same road going to and from his destination.

He enjoyed many family fishing trips locally and two big trips with his parents out to Campbell River, B.C.

Larry really enjoyed driving a tractor and he loved his garden.

Another favourite pastime was being a pool shark either at the Canada Grey or the Hanna Golf Course.

In February 1991 Larry became a very proud dad to daughter Kimberly Brown Metzger. She had her daddy wrapped around her fingers.

Another proud moment was when he became a Grandpa to Garrik in 2010 and again on 2016 to Olivia.

Larry’s happiest years were when Wendy Alspach came back into his life after 37 years apart.

They were married July 27, 2019 at the ball diamond in Craigmyle. They were very happy.

February 2018 his life took a turn for the worse when he had to have a toe removed and then four days later had to go through surgery again to have his leg removed to just below the knee.

It was a major setback but he was a determined man.

By July 2018 he had a prosthetic leg and he was back helping at Madge Farms.

Larry was predeceased by both sets of grandparents Karl and Emily Metzger, and Otto and Bertha Pfahl as well as his dad in September 2017.

He is survived by his loving wife Wendy; daughter Kimberly Brown Metzger; grandchildren: Garrik, Olivia, and Zakara; his mom Violet Metzger; sister Charlotte (Richard) Preston; and brother Milton (Terry) Metzger.

Also nieces: Charlene Preston (Grant Minifie), Joleen (Cody) Scott, Chance and Colby; Melissa Metzger; nephews: Michael (Shelly) Metzger, Tianna, Cameron, Richelle, Destany and Violet, and David (Aislyn) Metzger, Bentley and Sullivan. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
