It is with great sadness that the family of Vi McCarty announces her passing, on Oct. 1, 2019, at the age of 82 years. 

Vi was born in Dodsland, Sask. 

She moved to Manitoba, then moved to Alberta, where she met her husband Jim. 

She thrived as a saddle maker, learning the trade from her time with Riley and McCormick, later running her own shop from the McCarty homestead. 

Vi was also an avid cattle farmer where she also raised chickens and kept a fertile garden. 

When she wasn’t tending to the farm, Vi was active in the community playing cards, bingo and bowling in the neighbouring towns of Big Valley, Byemoor and Stettler, Alta. 

She will be dearly missed by her son Pat; daughter-in-law Lesley; grandchildren Cody, Brandi, Melissa, Benjamin and Jessica; brother Keith Campbell (nephews, Duncan, Trevor and Jamie); sister-in-law Ena as well as many dear friends. 

Vi was predeceased by her sons William and Kenneth; brother Jim Campbell and husband James. 

A Celebration of Life in memory of Vi will be held at the Big Valley Hotel, Big Valley, Alta. on Sun., Sept. 27, 2020 at 2 p.m. 

She will be laid to rest in the Big Valley Cemetery with her husband, sons and other family. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alberta Lung Association or to a charity of your choice.
