Male arrested after attempting to remove license plate

A resident of Hanna observed a male approaching the rear of her vehicle, which was parked on her private property on Oct. 4.

When the male crouched down by her license plate, she confronted him and observed him attempting to remove the license plate. The male ran off and was later located and arrested by the Hanna RCMP.

During the arrest he was found to be breaching a condition of his probation order.

Sergeant Rob Welsman stated, “Surveillance cameras were of help in this instance because it not only alerted the homeowner to what was going on, but also made identification of the suspect much easier.”

The male, Scott Douglas Klatt (36), a resident of Hanna, has been charged with one count of mischief and one count of breaching a probation order condition.

After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, the male was released and will appear at Alberta Court of Justice in Hanna on Oct. 25, 2023.

Property crime offender
Three Hills RCMP responded to a break-and-enter in progress on Oct. 8 at approximately 4:15 p.m. while the homeowner was home and hiding inside.

Members arrived at the residence and observed suspects fleeing the area in a vehicle. Three Hills RCMP located the vehicle and one male suspect after he lit a fire to a farm field to try and evade police.

The male was arrested shortly after and identified by police. Police confirmed the vehicle was stolen and officers located break and enter tools and stolen property inside the vehicle.

Joseph Vincent (30), a resident of Sylvan Lake, Alta., has been charged with arson – damage to property, break and enter residence; possession of break-in instruments; possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Vincent was remanded into custody to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Drumheller on Oct. 13, 2023.

Wanted male arrested
Recently, Drumheller General Investigation Section (GIS), with the assistance of Drumheller General Duty officers, initiated an investigation into a wanted man possibly in the Drumheller area.

The investigation identified that Shayne Righthand (42) of Calgary, was wanted and had outstanding warrants out of Calgary for failing to comply with a Release Order.  It was also determined that Righthand was in breach of court-imposed release conditions.

On October 12th, 2023, at approximately 2 p.m., Drumheller RCMP members located and arrested Righthand in the parking lot of Canadian Tire in Drumheller.

Further investigation revealed that Righthand was driving a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s licence and was in possession of bear spray and fraudulent documents.

In addition to his outstanding warrants, Shayne Righthand was charged with failing to comply with Release Order, four counts; possession of a weapon and fraudulent documents, two counts and driving while unauthorized.

The 2015 Mercedes Benz Righthand was driving was seized for 30 days pursuant to Provincial Sanctions.

Righthand was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Drumheller on Oct. 13, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. to answer to the charges.
