Winifred Frances ‘Win’ MacFadyen passed away peacefully at her home on her farm on Sun. Dec. 31, 2023 at the age of 97 years.
Win was born on July 22, 1926 at Pine Lake, Alta. to Doris and Robert Beckingsale who had immigrated from England. Win attended the Pine Lake School, and then completed her education in Red Deer, Alta.
She met Hugh MacFadyen at a dance and they were married on Aug. 5, 1945. They settled on the family farm east of Innisfail, Alta. and farmed there until retirement in 1990.
Win was an active member of the community her entire life including the Milnerton Womens Institute (WI) and other community groups.
Win and Hugh enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and curling. They also liked travelling and took several overseas trips to visit family.
Win was an excellent gardener, homemaker and crafter, winning many prizes at agricultural fairs over the years.
She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her three sons, Dan (Dianne), Dave, and Jack; her seven grandchildren, Chris (Nicole), Kirsten, Kim (Marcel), Lisa (Tijn), Morgan, Neil and Ian; and her five great-grandchildren, Kieran, Wesley, Maykel, Christian and Margot.
Win was predeceased by her husband Hugh, her brother, Edgar Beckingsale, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and George Jones and Rose and Smiley Douglas, her daughter-in-law, Pamela Beauchamp MacFadyen, and her nephew, Gordon Jones.
A public celebration of Win’s life will be held at the Glenellen Community Centre, 25401 Township Road 360, Pine Lake, Alta. on Sat. July 20, 2024 from 2 to 4:00 p.m.
