Lundy, Ray Malcolm Sr.

Ray Malcolm Lundy Sr. passed away peacefully at the Coronation Health Centre on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the age of 88 years. Ray was born May 30, 1923 at the Coronation Hospital, the only child to Bletcher and Annie Lundy. Ray attended Coronation School and in his younger days he played many sports, excelling at both hockey and ball.  Ray started farming with his dad at the home place north of Federal and on June 28, 1941 he married the love of his life, Adeline Moen.
Out of this joyous union seven children were born, Joan, twins Ray and Roy, Daryl, Debra, Randal and Vernon.  Ray was an active member in the Appaloosa Association of Alberta, one of the founding members of the Coronation Fair Board, a 4-H leader of many years, winning a distinction award in 1997; a co-op director, an Elks member, and a manager of hockey teams. Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, mechanics, blacksmithing, woodworking and a true lover of nature.

Ray’s pride and joy was his family and extended family enjoying every visit and each gathering. He was a truly devoted husband caring for Adeline when she became ill, showing his love everyday.  The biggest legacy Ray leaves behind besides his family, is the campsite at the Lundy Pond which he built himself, board by board, pipe by pipe; complete with playground equipment, camp kitchen, fishing shack and the honeymoon cabin along with the trees he brought back with him from his annual hunting trips.
Ray is survived by his six children, Ray and Trudy of Coronation, Roy and Shirley of Calgary, Daryl and Carol of Coronation, Debra and Ron Bullick of Coronation, Randal and Shelley of Red Deer and Vernon of Strathmore.  Also 24 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; long time family friend Doreen Wilson and her family, special friend Lenard Adams; as well as many wonderful neighbours and friends.  Ray was predeceased by his loving wife Adeline in 2005, daughter Joan in 1987, daughter-in-law Joyce in 2003 and his father Bletcher in 1956 and his mother Annie in 1980.
The funeral service honouring Ray’s life  was held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Coronation Community Centre, Coronation, AB with Reverend Sue Hertell officiating.  Pianist Allan Zinger played for the congregational hymns “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace”.  A tribute to Ray was shared by Ray Lundy Jr. and Trudy and Daryl and Carol Lundy.  Vernon Lundy read a poem and a bible passage.
