The vacant lot at the south east corner of 50 Street and 50 Avenue in downtown Stettler has been donated to the Town of Stettler by Don and Sylvia Peters and family.
The lot is locally referred to as the “Old Stettler Travel Site” and is expected to be developed into a park.
Don and Sylvia Peters have suggested the park be dedicated to all the pioneer businesses of Stettler from the Peters family.
Notice of the title transfer to the Town of Stettler was confirmed by letter at the May 21 Town of Stettler council meeting.
The lot has been vacant since December 2010 when Stettler Travel relocated and the building was demolished.
Main Street Stettler is directly supported by successful longtime businesses.
In the past few years changes to downtown have included: new and renovated buildings, railway themed architecture, railway track stamped sidewalks and new and expanding businesses.
The Stettler Beautification Committee is expected to assist in the planning of the park.
