On Wed. Dec. 13, 2023, the Golden Prairie 4-H Club had their last meeting of the year at the Forestburg Train Station.
The 4-H pledge was led by Ericka Davis and Thomas Eshpeter.
The roll call question was “What is your favourite winter activity?”, and Wendy Weiss had one item of correspondence.
It was a reminder that the regional fun-day registration was due on Dec. 14.
There were two additions to the agenda and they were to include the club reporter and the regional meeting which Rhonda Fuller had attended.
The secretary, Sasha Weiss, reported her minutes from the last meeting and a motion was made that there were no errors.
Ericka Davis, the treasurer, reported on our budget and a chart with our current budget was handed out for reference.
The club reporter reported that she had sent the November report to the East Central Review and that they had printed it in one of their issues.
During Caroline, the club leader’s, speaking time, the upcoming regional fun-day was discussed which is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2024.
Also, the Public Speaking workshop and competition were discussed and committee members were found for both. The date of the workshop is Jan. 17, 2024 and the date of the competition is Feb. 3, 2024.
During the meeting, our community service options were also brought up. One of them is running the concession at the Daysland Palace Theatre. Another community service was volunteering at the Forestburg Christmas market back in November.
Some of the new business that came up was our annual toboggan party at Willow Canyon, Donalda. For this event, a committee was made up and we discussed a budget for gifts and who would bring the meal and snacks.
We also designated other committees, like one for achievement day sorting out who would buy gifts for leaders and members and who would prepare the food. Many members volunteered to be on these committees which was great because now we have most of this year’s committees sorted.
At the meeting, we also voted in all our project leaders. All of the current leaders were voted in to stay as leaders for the year. During our discussion about the leaders, there were no negative comments towards the current leaders and everyone showed much appreciation for them.
After our discussions, we had our project reports. All of the projects have had at least one meeting so far in the year. The project reports were Busking, Foods, Outdoor Living, Horse, Tractors, Woodworking, first and second-year Photography, and Creative Options.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 pm and our next meeting will be Jan. 10, 2024 at the Forestburg Train Station at 7 pm.
