Herbert Milner Kary was born May 16, 1928, in Hemaruka Ab. the fifth child of eight born to Jacob and Pauline Kary (nee) Schrader.
Herb passed away on Jan. 9, 2019 peacefully at the Coronation Hospital.
Herb grew up in the Hemaruka area.
He lost his mother, Pauline at the early age of eight.
Throughout the years after leaving the family farm, Herb moved around Alberta working for several farmers and ranchers.
Herb moved backed to the Veteran area in 1954 at which time he met the love of his life, Laura May Drake and were married Nov. 21, 1956.
They started their life and family of three children, Clifford, Wendy and Tammy.
Together they raised their children in the home they built in 1966, where they spent 50 years together, until Laura’s passing in July 2016.
Herb remained in their home with their beloved dog Buffy until he moved to the Castor Paintearth Lodge in mid-October 2018. He had a brief stay at the lodge and returned to the Coronation Hospital in December 2018 until the time of his passing.
Herb and Laura both enjoyed camping and fishing with family and friends from the Coronation area. In their later years, the two of them never ventured too far from home as Laura did not like to be too far away from the water tower!
One of their many past times was playing cards and working on puzzles together.
Herb spent many years driving school bus. He thoroughly enjoyed driving bus and it gave him much satisfaction to watch all the children grow up throughout the years.
Herb will be remembered for his love of woodworking and many gifts he built for family and friends from folding tables to pet houses and multiple other little knick-knacks.
Herb also enjoyed making match stick projects for the Coronation Fair where he won many first place ribbons.
Herb took great pride in his yard, full of colourful flowers and his bountiful garden. Just before moving out of his home, he won Yard of the Week which made him extremely proud.
Some of the most loved things in Herb’s life besides his family and friends were jam, bacon, KFC and playing 65.
Herb is predeceased by his parents Jacob and Pauline Kary and his loving wife Laura of 59 years; brother William (Bill) Kary; two sisters Helen Lennox and Linda Wallace; three brothers-in-law: Ben Peters, Ed Wallace, Edgar Butler and sister and brother-in-law Ilene and Lester Homan.
