Garry Allan Howery was born in Hanna, Alberta on May 28, 1953 to parents Ina Leone (Mulgrove) and Vivian Allan Howery. The Howery family including sisters, Debbie and Valerie, moved to Viking in 1963 and settled on a farm north of Viking. During his school years, Garry was involved with Leo Club, Gymkhana Club and Pony Wagon Club.
When he left school, he worked at various jobs prior to purchasing Garry’s Auto in Viking.

Garry ran a successful parts business from 1977 to 1996. During those years, Garry was involved in various community sports and activities, especially those involving his boys.
He loved motor biking, fishing, camping and car racing. After selling his business Garry moved to Leduc and then St. Albert, before settling in Calgary, where he was employed by Heritage Park providing maintenance services and later as Captain of the SS Moyie, the renowned Calgary River Boat. Garry placed immense value on his immediate and extended family and enjoyed the large family gatherings. He was a practiced joker and had a good sense of humour.
Garry is survived by his sons, Shawn and Trevor, his father Viv, his sisters Debbie (Barry Quinton) and Valerie (Mark Shaw) and the mother of his children, Colette Howery. He was predeceased by his son Marc and his mother Ina Goldthorpe.
