Dwayne Zinger, formerly from Coronation, now living in Buffalo, NY, was recently approached to be one of three hosts for the Canadian Jr.Hockey Team at the World Juniors Hockey Tournament in Buffalo from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, 2018.
Dwayne and his wife Erica hosted the Canadian team at their home for a Christmas Eve dinner, a total of about 50 people. Just one of many events.
It was a tip from Dwayne’s brother Dan Zinger to Shaun Bullock, who works for Hockey Canada and played hockey with Dan and his other brother Darren Zinger in Red Deer, that he knew a Canadian, who lives in Buffalo and just happened to know hockey.
“Dwayne got a call from Shaun for this honour of being a host. That had to be God ordained not luck,” said Diane Zinger.
Dwayne was raised in Coronation, youngest son of Claud and Diane.
He played his minor hockey in Coronation, Jr. hockey in Saskatchewan, with the Melville Millionaires and university hockey at University of Fairbanks, Alaska.
He signed with the Detroit Red Wings in 2000 and played eight years in the American Hockey League (AHL), one year overseas in Denmark and coached Greenville Warriors for three years in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).
Dwayne, Erica and their three children have been in Buffalo for three years where he is an area manager for Michelin Tire.
